Frequently Asked Questions

Everything you need to know before your sugaring appointment.

What is sugaring?

Sugaring is an ancient Egyptian method of hair removal that is gaining popularity in the United States as a luxury alternative to traditional waxing. Sometimes called sugar waxing, sugaring is a gentle, effective, and all-natural solution for unwanted hair.

Sugar paste is made from just three ingredients: sugar, lemon juice, and water. It contains no additives. There are no sticks or strips involved. The paste is applied and removed using a professional hand technique that takes time, practice, and dedication to master.

How is sugaring different from waxing?

Waxing generally removes hair against the natural direction of hair growth, which can be more uncomfortable and irritating to the skin. Sugaring uses a different technique and removes the hair in the natural direction it grows.

  1. No extreme heat. Sugar paste is not applied at the high temperatures associated with traditional hot wax, so there is no risk of hot wax burns.
  2. Gentle on the skin. Sugar paste is designed to adhere primarily to the hair and dead skin cells, helping reduce unnecessary irritation.
  3. Hair is removed in its natural direction of growth. This technique can be gentler and less traumatizing to the skin than removing hair against its growth.
How long does my hair have to be to get sugared?

The ideal hair length is approximately ¼ inch or longer, which is about the size of a grain of rice. If you have been shaving, 2–3 weeks of growth is usually sufficient, although longer is perfectly fine too.

If you have been waxing or sugaring, you will typically want to wait 4–6 weeks between appointments without shaving in between.

Can I get sugared while on my period?

Yes! You can absolutely receive a Brazilian sugaring service during your menstrual cycle as long as you wear a tampon or menstrual cup during your appointment.

Keep in mind that your skin may be more sensitive during this time, so you may experience a little more discomfort than usual.

Can I get sugared if I'm pregnant?

Absolutely! Sugar paste is made with simple ingredients and contains no unnecessary additives or preservatives. As your belly grows, certain areas may become difficult to reach—so please allow me to assist you!

Keep in mind that some expecting mothers experience increased skin sensitivity, which can make hair removal feel more uncomfortable than usual.

How long should I wait between sugaring appointments?

The ideal time to return for your next sugaring treatment is when new hair growth reaches approximately ⅛–¼ inch long. For most body areas, this is typically every 4–6 weeks.

Underarms may require more frequent appointments, often around every 3 weeks, depending on your individual growth rate.

Staying on a regular schedule can help you maintain soft, smooth skin and long-lasting results.

How should I prepare for my sugaring appointment?

For the best possible sugaring experience, please follow these guidelines:

  • Clean skin: Shower before your appointment and arrive with clean, dry skin.
  • Exfoliate: Gently exfoliate the treatment area beforehand.
  • Hair length: Hair should generally be at least ⅛ inch long. If you have been shaving, approximately 1–3 weeks of growth may be needed, depending on the treatment area.
  • No lotions or oils: Avoid applying skincare products to the treatment area on the day of your appointment.
  • Underarm appointments: Please avoid deodorant or antiperspirant before your service.
  • Avoid caffeine: Caffeine may increase sensitivity for some clients.
  • Skip the gym beforehand: Please arrive fresh, clean, and ready for your appointment.
  • No tanning: Avoid tanning the day before and the day of your appointment. Sunburned skin is too sensitive for sugaring.
  • No self-tanner: Sugaring may remove self-tanner from the treatment area. Wait until after your appointment to apply it.
  • Accutane: You must be off Accutane for at least 6 months before receiving hair removal services.
What should I do after my sugaring appointment?

Proper aftercare can help keep your skin smooth, comfortable, and glowing after your service.

  • Avoid deodorant, makeup, and body lotions on the treated area for 12 hours.
  • Skip workouts and other activities that cause sweating until the next day.
  • Keep the treated area clean and avoid unnecessary friction.
  • Wait approximately 3 days before beginning gentle exfoliation.
  • Apply body lotion daily, especially after exfoliating.
  • Avoid tanning for at least 24 hours after your appointment.
Does sugaring hurt?

Everyone experiences hair removal differently. The most discomfort is often experienced during the initial sugaring treatment because there is typically more hair present.

With regular treatments, many clients find that the experience becomes easier as hair growth becomes more manageable over time.
